Something for Mom

Typical Mother’s Day traditions include brunch and Hallmark cards (and sometimes a little yard work), but grown-up gift choices can be a bit swankier. In Hollywood, mommy-and-me outfits are trending, as are myriad other more utilitarian items (we see you, J. Lo’s vintage K-Swiss sneakers!).

Royal Chain

Jewelry, of course, has long played a role in Mother’s Day gifts for stars and regular folks alike. Sentimental designs provide silent but powerful personalized meanings to individuals while pretty pieces in rich karat gold with precious gems speak to every woman’s affection for beautiful things.

Jewelry manufacturers aim to update and elevate best sellers each year to deliver home runs in retail showcases. The adage “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” comes to mind here, but with subtle tweaks that speak to trending colors and silhouettes.

This year’s offerings for Mother’s Day include lots of yellow gold—despite the metal’s high prices. For many, the rising price per ounce has validated its position as a precious metal.

For spring, Royal Chain Group has reintroduced what are now considered retro styles like Omega and Tuboga chains.

“Yellow gold continues to be a popular choice for Mother’s Day, especially in pendants and bracelets,” says Phillip Gabriel Maroof, creative director and designer for the firm. “But we also expect our petite diamond fashion pieces to perform well over Mother’s Day.”

KGS Jewels is more focused on price points rather than a particular metal or gemstone. That’s why Richard Bachu, vice president of sales and director of e-commerce for the brand, spoke to The Plumb Club recently about jewelry styles. Think stud and teardrop-shape earrings with matching necklaces.

“The more minimal and simpler the better,” he explains.

Retailers can sometimes overthink their options, but a simple design with a little bit of diamond accent—natural or lab grown—is typically a winning combination. “From $500 to $100, it’s all about price point,” he confirms.

Asked about motifs, Bachu says hearts are a go-to symbol for shoppers. And while newer two-stone designs get a lot of editorial play, he thinks it’s less likely to be a hit among mature moms. “I think it’s more for a younger audience,” he muses. “It’s popular on social media as well.”

Heavy Stone Rings has a super thoughtful offering for moms and dads: A Night to Remember kits featuring six styles—a trio for both—with a celestial vibe.

“Each piece features a constellation engraving and three diamonds,” says Shawn Clark, co-owner and director of sales. “The kit tells a story about life’s most important nights.”

Chatham, meanwhile, has literally opened the floodgates of new lab-grown colored gemstone and diamond designs.

“We’ve released over 100 new designs this year that are perfect for Mother’s Day,” says Monica McDaniel, vice president and marketing director. “They’re inspired by recurring trends.”

Think hexagon silhouettes, tennis bracelets, and purple gems.

“Our retailers have been asking for lab-grown purple sapphire since it’s more vibrant and durable than amethyst,” she continues.

More designs feature lab-grown diamonds and created emeralds.

“We predict our open hinge cuffs incorporating fancy-cut diamonds and lab-grown emerald, sapphire, and ruby will be even more popular.”

And for PANTONE fans, there’s the Color of 2025: Mocha Mousse. Find a similar hue in Chatham’s lab-grown champagne-color sapphires in 14k rose gold.
